Who We Are
We are a licensed California nursery owned by California Agave Venture, LLC, and operated by owner Craig Reynolds. This website provides agave growers the opportunity to procure our unique variety of agave, Agave Yolo “Yolo” for short. We have been growing Yolos since 2014 and have provided mature hearts (piñas) to California craft distillers since 2019, both fresh and pit cooked. We sell pups and bulbils in various stages, sizes, and formats to meet customer needs.
Our Team
Craig Reynolds, Owner
Craig began growing agave in Colima, Mexico, in 2006, producing and importing an agave spirit brand Dos Volcanes. In 2014 he began growing agave in Yolo County, California and partnering with California craft distillers to produce California grown agave spirits. His vision for a California agave spirits industry was born from his agave experience and his 30 years work as a chief of staff for three California legislators, focusing on water and agricultural policy where he saw agave’s potential to help California farmers adapt to climate change and persistent water shortages. Craig Reynolds is the Founding Director and past President of the California Agave Council.
Raul “Reppo” Chavez, Farm/Nursery Manager
Raul “Reppo” Chavez is widely recognized as the most experienced and successful agave grower in California. Reppo brings with him over 20 years experience in California’s commercial agriculture industry, managing large acreage of field and tree crops including tomatoes, peppers, olives, almonds, grapes and others in Yolo County. Growing up in Jalisco’s agave country, Reppo learned how to cultivate agave. He began growing agaves in Yolo County with Craig Reynolds in 2014. His combined understanding of traditional practices in Mexico and California’s unique conditions has allowed him to successfully grow agave for California agave spirits distillers and growers and advise them on how to succeed.
